Group batches cost much less per student. No Coimbatore centre publishes batch fees openly, so ask for the total, the number of sessions, and whether mock tests are included.

Book the test itself directly with the official provider. Never hand your passport or booking login to an agent or a coaching centre.

Do you actually need coaching

Take one full, timed practice test before paying anyone. Then:

  • Already scoring your target band. You need practice, not classes. Buy official practice material and book the test.
  • Within half a band, losing marks on timing or format. A short course or a few one-to-one sessions is good value. This is the biggest group.
  • A full band or more below target. This is an English problem, not an IELTS problem. A general spoken and written English course will do more than an exam crash course. Plan in months.

Being honest with yourself here is worth more than any centre you pick.

Academic or General Training

Confirm which one your university or immigration route requires before you book. Reading and Writing differ between them. Preparing for the wrong version wastes the whole course, and it happens more often than it should.

  • Academic: university admission, most professional registration.
  • General Training: migration, some work visas.

Where the marks actually go

Most candidates in Coimbatore lose marks in predictable places:

  • Speaking: hesitation and short answers, not grammar. Fluency is scored.
  • Writing Task 1: not answering the question asked, or missing the word count. Both are avoidable and both are heavily penalised.
  • Listening: spelling and transferring answers, not comprehension.
  • Reading: running out of time on the last passage.

A trainer who diagnoses which of these applies to you in the first session is worth paying for. One who starts everyone on the same syllabus is not.

Questions before enrolling

  • How many full timed mock tests are included, and are they marked by a person? Automated scoring on Writing and Speaking is close to useless.
  • Do I get individual Speaking practice, or only group? Speaking is the section where one-to-one time matters most.
  • Who is the trainer, and what is their own band score? A fair question, and a good trainer answers it without irritation.
  • Is the test booking included, and at what price? If a centre marks up the official test fee, book it yourself.
