Home tuition is the most searched tuition option in Coimbatore, and also the one where people most often overpay. This page covers how the money actually works, what to check before the first class, and what a fair arrangement looks like.
What drives the price
Four things move a home tuition fee in Coimbatore, roughly in order of impact:
- One-to-one versus small group. A tutor teaching your child alone charges for their whole hour. A tutor taking three neighbourhood children together charges each family less and still earns more per hour. If cost matters, organising a group of two or three with neighbours is the single biggest saving available to you.
- Travel distance. A tutor crossing the city in evening traffic is losing an hour they could bill. Expect that to be priced in. A tutor who already teaches in your area is cheaper for exactly the same lesson.
- Level and subject. Class 11 and 12 physics, chemistry and maths cost noticeably more than primary-level work, because the pool of people who can teach it well is much smaller.
- Exam pressure. Anything attached to a board exam, NEET or JEE carries a premium, and it rises as the exam gets closer. Booking in April costs less than booking in November.
How to compare quotes honestly
Ask every tutor the same four questions, and you will find quotes that looked similar are not:
- What is the monthly total? Not the hourly rate. The monthly total, for a stated number of sessions. “₹500 an hour” means very different things at two sessions a week and at four.
- How long is a session, actually? Sixty minutes and ninety minutes are both called “one class”.
- Are notes, worksheets and test papers included? Sometimes they are a separate charge, and occasionally a large one.
- What happens to a missed class? Whose absence gets made up, and whose does not, is worth settling in the first conversation rather than the third month.
Checks worth doing before the first class
This is a directory, not an agency. We review every listing and confirm the phone number works, but we cannot background-check individuals, so these are on you, and they are quick:
- See original certificates, not photocopies or photos. Degrees and B.Ed qualifications are easy to claim and easy to verify.
- Call two current parents. Ask for the numbers and actually ring them. A good tutor will offer them before you ask. Hesitation here is the single most useful warning sign you will get.
- Insist on a paid trial class. One session, paid at the normal rate, before any monthly commitment. A tutor who refuses this is telling you something.
- For a tutor coming to your home: first session with a parent present and in an open room, always. Keep it that way for younger children.
- Pay monthly, and get it in writing. Even a WhatsApp message stating the fee, the number of sessions and the timing is enough to prevent most disputes.
What we publish, and what we do not
Every listing on this page shows a real fee range, because “contact for price” wastes everybody’s time. As listings arrive we compute the median fee per subject and area from live data and publish that too. The numbers in the key facts box above come straight from the listings, not from an estimate.
Where we do not have data, we say so rather than invent a figure. If the fee box above is empty, it is because nobody in that category has published a fee yet.
Listing yourself as a home tutor
If you teach in Coimbatore, listing is free and there is no commission on anything you earn. You keep the enquiry, the relationship and the money. The one thing we ask is that you publish a real fee range, because that is the whole point of the directory.
